John Le Carré is the pen name for author, "David John Moore Cornwell". He is best known for his espionage & spy novels.

 

In Le Carre's book, "The Russia House", the character Barley Blair, a publicist, is approached by high-ranking Soviet scientist with information that may help the West. Barley is quickly trained by British Intelligence and sent to Moscow to liaise with a go-between, the beautiful Katya. In order to save humanity,  must they betray their countries?
