Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Miller Hemingway (21 July 1899 – 2 July 1961) was an American novelist, short-story writer and journalist. Recognised as one of the most influential writers of the 20th-century.
Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954.
And received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953.
He served in WW1 as an ambulance driver and then as a war correspondent.
His debut novel, “The Sun Also Rises”, was published in 1926.
Hemingway then wrote “A Farewell to Arms”, published in 1929.
Hemingway was on secondment as a war correspondent for the Spanish Civil War in around 1937. Those experiences are said to have formed the backbone for his novel, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, which was written in Havana, Cuba and published in 1940.
In 1952, Hemingway wrote “The Old Man and the Sea”, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
He died by suicide at his home in Idaho, USA, in 1961.

A further non fiction book, “The Dangerous Summer” was published in 1985 authored by James Michener but based on manuscripts earlier written by Ernest Hemingway before his death.
